THE CHALLENGE: As an iconic leader in the era of multinational business, United Technologies was familiar with making big bets. But as the calendar flipped closer to its 100th year, the biggest change yet was ahead.

 

The company, like a lot of cross-industry conglomerates, was facing the challenge of trying to be everything to everyone in a time of rising competition. While there was no imminent plan to divest its company portfolio, leadership needed a way to set the stage for big decisions to come.

 

The perfect opportunity to seed the conversation was the annual Investor and Analyst Day. 

As their chief communication partner, we needed to create a film that would set the tone for this critical event that included thousands of industry influencers and was only weeks away.

 

THE SOLUTION: UTC had to instill confidence with investors, employees and the general public about the potential of returning to its aerospace roots. The answer: tell a compelling origin story that grew intrigue of the next chapter to come.

 

Time was of the essence; no chance to craft and shoot a high production video. Instead, we immersed ourselves in the corporate lore and pulled reels of historical footage.

 

We added a dash of pop culture to contextualize the history of a brand that faced shifting challenges head on. And then tapped into allusions to some of the company's most innovative technology yet to come.

 

The result was a compelling corporate film that was broadcast on 30-foot screens that defined the tone of this pivotal event—and got some toes tapping along the way. Roll it...
